Morgan Update

Sunday- didn't do my 4 mile run b/c I was too tired from only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before. so I decided to repeat last week's training.

Monday-Jillian Michael's workout

Tuesday-2miles/23:45 min/ was supposed to be a 3 mile day but didn't have enough time

Wednesday 2miles/23:36min/ normally i'd cross train on wednesdays instead of running but since i only did 2 the day before, i decided to run.

Thursday 3 miles/ 37:47 min/ interesting run...difficult start but at about 1.8 miles i started feeling really good lol...

Kevins Update

Hey, sorry for the time in between posts but im real abd at this thing.

Last week, I ran every day Monday thru Saturday with my trainer.
Mon - 4 mile slow job/ no time
Tue - 3 mile timed run/ 24:36
Wed - 4 mile slow run / no time
Thur - 3 mile training workout = 1 mile run, 2 400yd sprints, 4 200yd sprints, 1 mile run/
times all added up to equal 3 miles in 23 mins
Fri - 4 mile slow run/ no time
Sat - 1 mile run/ 7:32 mins and then leg workouts

Today is Monday and I am about to leave right now to go meet up with the trainer to do a run workout, will update about it later.

ALSO, I stopped doing P90x and started doing Insanity everyday. Same creators as P90x but Insanity is the next step up...I really needed faster results that P90x can provide so I had to step the work outs up.

Lydia's back in the game....

Hey everyone, I was really out of it for a while but I've decided to get back on track with training and my life! ha! I ran 1 mile in about 9 mins and 45secs and ran/walked the other mile in intervals and that took 15 mins...yup baby steps! I will get there though, I see you Gayon!!! Kevin, Morgan...I will get there! lol.

Drumroll...

First run done.

Jan 22 - Ran intervals 60 sec run, 90 sec walk, 20 minutes with 5 min walks at beginning and end.

Since I hadn't run in almost 2 months I decided to just start over again with the program that I used when I first got into running - Couch to 5k. It felt fine. I can definitely tell that I'm a lot more fit this time around. When I first got into running I used to think I would die before I finished. :o)

Morgan's Update

Friday: Rest! and it felt so good.

Saturday: was supposed to cross train but didn't have time.

Sunday: 4 miles!!!!/ don't know how long it took b/c my ipod died at 2.5 miles, womp. but i'd say it took me just under an hour. man didn't think i was gonna make it...i definitely limped-ran that last mile...so painful. but the good news is my left knee didn't start hurting until about the end of the 3rd mile...then my legs hurt for the rest of the night...but when i woke up monday morning, they felt ok.

Monday: stretch and strength training for about an hour

Tuesday: 3 miles/41 min/ left knee forever feeling funny, both knees hurt a little towards the end, how do i get stronger knees?

Gayon's Sunday Run

4.5 miles/ 48:44 - Was supposed to run 5 miles. Felt like I was losing my pacing plenty of times. Really had to push through the end of 3rd mile. Surely, I didn't prepare well mentally and that disappoints me. Running outside too late in the night is a de-motivator. Must schedule my runs better and think positively. Last thing: does anyone feel like they run stronger on one foot than the other? (It isn't until I watch my shadow while running that I realize that, at times, my running is as if I'm limping. Weird.)

Gayon's Saturday Run

3 miles/ 31:08 - Worst run ever as I felt horrible by minute :09. Overcompensating, running too fast, poor breathing, etc. - all are probably why I hated running tonight. I didn't enjoy it at all. Didn't really sustain a convo with God while en route. I also think I didn't hydrate myself well before and during.... realizing the mental benefit of consistency over sporadic running: you won't feel like running is evil; you naturally progress over trying to push yourself so hard that you don't wanna run the next day. Aargh.
I'm still gonna do my long run tomorrow.

Gayon's Friday

No Run.

Gayon's Thursday

No Run.

Gayon's Wednesday

No Run.

Morgan's Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday: Jillian Michael's workout

Thursday: 3 miles/42 min/before i even finished the first mile my left knee started to hurt...at about 1.2 miles the pain got so bad that I had to stop for a few seconds. I tried to stretching a little to see if it would help. and i prayed b/c i didn't want to stop running. at about 1.5 miles it stopped hurting, yay! but then a little while after that, it didn't start "hurting' again but it just felt uncomfortable for the rest of my run :(. and at around 2.5 miles my lower back was starting to protest. ahhh! how am i gonna run 4 miles on sunday? how am i gonna run 13.1 miles in 11 weeks!?! that's how i felt after today's run. I limped back into my house and did some strength training for the next 45 minutes.

OK - so Imma just go 'head and do this...

Man o man, I'm not gonna act like "we all don't love Jesus" cuz I know we do.
And moreso than that, I know there's an insatiable furnace of desire to grow in Him in all of us.
So here it goes: if you feel like you wanna drop a "bomb" on this blog that has nothing to do with training, exercising, running, but just deals with Jesus i.e. a word, encouragement, scripture, vision, etc. Gon' head and do that!!!!

My $.02 (which really amounts to more) is Revelation 2!!!! Rev 2:1-5
Do you see God's heart!!! smh omgosh!! Meditate and think about that while training some time.
Do you hear what He's saying!!! (I've read it plenty of times, God just renewed it to me, thought I'd share).

To him who overcomes,
Gayon

Morning Workouts

So its been two consecutive days of training with Dee and they havent been that bad. She has decided to start of easy knowing that I am not in Marine hardcore shape yet and I am so grateful for it.

Day 1 (Monday) - we did a 3 mile run just to see if I can complete it without stopping. Seeing that I had no problem with it she decided to push it up to a 4 the next day.

Day 2 (Tuesday) - did a 4 mile run to see if I can do it without stopping and had to do it under 40 minutes. That too wasnt a problem for me, but I think I messed up showing her that right away because now she knows that I am not as bad out of shape as she thought so she agreed that our next work out will be a "training day" not a running day, meaning a long workout with many different parts ::heart starts growing nervous::....but part of me is looking forward to is because its the only way to get better.

Gayon's Tuesday Run

3 miles/29:23 mins - Just gotta get it done. Cold weather is no longer a negative, but a plus: pushing me to run (warm up) and get out of the cold. Admitted to my mother yesterday (the day I didn't run) how much I am not an avid runner. She was surprised. Fitness trainers oft advise to find an exercise that you "look forward" to doing. My natural loves = tennis and dancing. Always have been and will. Yet, the magic number right now is 13.1 miles... looking forward to the long run this weekend, lol.

Morgan's Monday and Tuesday

Monday:
Did a Jillian Michael's workout.
Seriously the hardest workout i've ever done in my life, and when i'm done i always feel like I never want to do it again...but i do.

Tuesday:
3miles/41 minutes/ ahhh!! horrible time :(. I think I just took it too easy in the beginning. my left knee hurts :( I think I will be sore in the morning.

Gayon's Monday

Just didn't run. Unmotivated. Lethargic the whole day. Blah....:(

I'm Not a Runner

Kevin Update

Sorry, I am so bad with these updates. Um, I have been taking it pretty easy since my last update (a few days ago) just doing 2 miles a day at a 8 min pace. Today is Sunday and I did the same light work out today. I have been going so easy because starting tomorrow morning (at dark o' freezing clock in the morning) my running trainer is back in action and will be whopping my butt into shape the hard way. Shes a full marathon runner (does 2 to 3 a year) and a D1 student athelete. She also trains other marines to get ready for marathons and when I told her what I just signed up for she put me on a 3 day a week training routine with her in the mornings. Please pray for me, she may kill me. Ill let you know how tomorrow, day 1 goes.

Hola!

Um, I'm gonna pull a Kevin and just do a quick update - feel free to not read. :)

I'm not planning on running the half until the end of the year.

In the meantime, I'm starting with the basic running again - maybe in the next couple of weeks. I'm also doing Turbo Jam, lots of walking and Chalean Extreme. (FYI, Chalean Extreme is produced by the same company as P90X and more targeted towards the ladies.) Gayon, as you know, Chalene is my girl and she is getting me right. I feel like I need to build some sort of fitness base again before I start any serious training. The fact that I've done it before assures me I can do it again. :)

So that's it. I'm so proud of everyone. Keep pressin'.

Gayon's Sunday Run

4 miles/ 41:37 - the cold kick me to the curb yesterday. Had to kick the cold to the Curb today!

Day 1 or 3 of week 1

Its been hard...not gonna lie. I'm not as nimble as I once was. My 1st day started on Weds. Nevermind that I'm super sick...but it was cold outside...Colder than south Fla is supposed to get. I ran 1 mile ran/walked another in a total of 27 mins. Don't laugh. Haven't been back out to brave the cold again...I will be better. Today is Saturday, tomorrow is Sunday. I will try this again.

Gayon's Friday Run

3 miles/ 31:50 minutes - Almost quit too soon. Gotta retain pacing. Felt like I was pushing myself for time's sake. :/
Did ChaLEAN Burn intervals... home-girl is trippin: quit half-way. Will do better next time.

Gayon's Thursday Run

3 miles/36 minutes - hard to run when your ears are freezing.
Strength Trained: ChaLeanED it. No motivation to do it. Just sheer "get it done" attitude.

Gayon's Wednesday

Super sick day!
Not lying!

Kevins Update

lol, got it....I didnt read the previous post where you listed the formats so I was just writing in paragraph form but got it now, thanx.

Update:
3miles/26 mins/I do have a quick question. Does anyone have any really good solutions for feet blisters and sores....all the running is killing my feet (and my times) and Ive never had to deal with this before so this is new territory.

Update

Wow...I’ve never done this blogging thing before, it took me 10 mins just to figure out how to get in and write a note but eventually I made my way here.

Hmm, so update with the running. Well this 1/2 marathon training is in conjunction with my marine corps training. In about a month or so I have to head up to gville and do a fitness test with my recruiting office up there to prove that I am in good enough shape to return to training in May so by then I need to be able to do 3 miles in 21 mins. Right now, comfortably I am at about 3 miles in 25 mins, so 4 mins to cut on that route. At least once a week I will do a longer run to both train for the 1/2 marathon and build up my endurance. Today (Tuesday 01/05) I did a long run, 5 miles. I don’t typically time myself on long runs I just rejoice in the fact that I am able to complete it without walking.

So that is about where I am at. Tomorrow I will do another simple 3 miler for time just to see where I am with that goal. Thanks Gayon for the different plans that you posted. I think I may try doing one of them to help train for distance running.

Also, if anyone wants something that works really well for me. In conjunction with just running training each day, I do P90X fitness training. Some army buddies of mine say that their entire unit trains on P90X and they all swear by it. I did the full cycle a couple of months ago and IT IS AMAZING. You can tone your body and get it into the best shape ever, and because of that the running doesn’t faze me as much. So if you want to give that a try as well, it has my two thumbs up.

Last thing, a guy in my unit down here is a marathon runner for the Marine Corps and running is his life, literally, the marines pay him to run for them. Anyhoo, he is also a fitness instructor and he wrote this paper (more like dissertation) on running training and conditioning, and improving your run time. I just got him to email it to me and I am about to check it out. I believe that he mentioned to me that it also includes a training schedule ideal for upping your endurance and run time, so if anyone is interested in reading it and checking it out, just let me know and I will forward the email to you.

Sorry for such a long update. I guess since I don’t update often, the ones I do will be lengthy.

Great training to you all.

Kevin

Gayon's Tuesday Rest

REST!!!
No Running
No Strength Training

Gayon's Monday Run

3 m/38 mins - Triple hard! a) Very cold today. b). Hard to breathe. c)Was trying to run on grass and it felt really awkward, but it is
definitely less impactful on my knees.

Half-Mar Training Schedules

Hey guys,

I found three different Half-Marathon training, one of which incorporates both strength-training and specifically running a 5k by week 6. They are all for novices, but then again, you know how some schedules "be trippin." lol. Choose carefully.

Sample Formats

Sample Format 1
Distance: 2 m
Time: 20:54
Comments: Almost gave up.

Sample Format 2
